Don't forget "Pines of Rome" by Respighi, "Maid With The Flaxen Hair", "Firebird Suite" by Igor Stravinsky, "Pomp & Circumstance" and out of the movies comes an extremely well-known piece used in lots of 90's commercials: "Tryouts" by Jerry Goldsmith from the movie Rudy

O Fortuna anybody? Granted, the music score is from 1930ish, but it centers around a 13th century latin poem...

the list is OK, I don' t mind to any of the works and also teh distribution, but Chopin is great and I am surprised his works are missing..... gotta be there somewhere among leading 10, I think.

Adagietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony

I've heard this in so many movies (often uncredited) that I think it deserves a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.

More famous pieces?

Other famous classical works? Try looking up some of these: Aaron Copland - "Appalachian Spring" features Simple Gifts, beautiful long work Aaron Copland - "Fanfare for the Common Man" chances are you've heard this somewhere! Suppe - "Light Calvary Overture" The OTHER horse-riding related famous classical piece Bizet - "Farandole" from "L'Arlesienne" often heard during the winter holiday Gustav Holst - "Mars" or "Jupiter" both well-known pieces from his "Planets" Verdi - "Marriage of Figaro" overture If you know or appreciate opera, you would probably know Rossini's "La Danza" and Denza's "Funiculi Funiculi," both used in commercials sometimes. And hey, for soundtracks, try anything John Williams helped compose. An exotic favorite of mine is the soundtrack of "Memoirs of a Geisha" Look up "Sayuri's Theme" from the end credits

Claire de lune

Claire de lune. This one of my favorite classical pieces of all time. It's so soothing and just plain gorgeous. It's briefly played in the bedroom scene when Edward first shows Bella his room.

Bumblebees and Mountain Kings

"The Flight of the Bumblebee" by Rimsky-Korsakov is often used to depict when someone is in a hurry, it has the sound of a bumblebee flying fast and furious. Also, "In the hall of the mountain king" by Grieg which I think is also included in Peer Gynt.

Huh

Barber of Seville is an extremely well known piece in my opinion. Fur Elise and also William Tell.
