Question: What is the history of the Gloria?
Answer: The Gloria dates back to a 2nd century Greek text. It also appears in the Apostolic Constitution as a "morning prayer" (c.380).
A Latin version appears in the Bangor Antiphonary in 690, but is still significantly different than the text we use today. The text we commonly use now dates back to a Frankish source in the 9th century.
