About Ernst Haefliger:

Ernst Haefliger was a renowned operatic tenor known for his oratorio and German lieder performances. Haefliger began his musical endeavor by studying voice and violin at Zurich Conservatory. By 1952, Haefliger earned a position as the lead lyric tenor for the Deutsche Oper Berlin. During his twenty year tenure, Haefliger had performed every tenor role composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Apart from his performances with the Deutsche Oper, Haefliger recorded many albums with several record companies including Deutsche Grammaphon and Columbia Records, earning him several distinguished awards. In 1959, Haefliger debuted in North America at the Vancouver Festival. During his American tours, Haefliger largely performed as the Evangelist from Bach's St. John Passion and St. Matthew Passion. In 1971, Haefliger became Professor at the Munich Hochschule für Musik teaching vocal performance.
