Question: Should I familiarize myself with the opera I'm about to see before I see it?
Answer: Yes, especially for beginners. Many operas can be quite confusing (and it doesn’t help that many operas are sung in foreign languages). The more you know before hand, the more enjoyable the experience can be. The less you have to look at the translations, the more you can pay attention to the performers.
