Up, Michael Giacchino's original score to the motion picture, is the winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Original Score. This is the first award and second Academy Award nomination for Giacchino. He was previously nominated for Best Original Score for the movie, Ratatouille. Up is a beautiful story about a man who takes to the sky to finally fulfill his lifelong dream while encountering and overcoming multiple obstacles. Giacchino's score is as whimsical as the film itself. With its Hello Dolly!-esque orchestrations and beautiful piano passages, it's easy to hear why it won the Academy Award. Of the five original scores nominated in 2010, Up was the most unique.
