In just over a month, (August 28 through September 6) the Met Opera will host its popular 10 consecutive day opera festival in the newly redesigned Lincoln Center Plaza. In its debut last year, more than 40,000 people attended the free event. This year, the plaza will seat 3,100 people on a first come, first served basis, and with ten presentations of of the Met's Peabody and Emmy Awards winning Live in HD series including three productions of the 2009-10 season (Puccini's Tosca, starring Karita Mattila and Marcelo Álvarez; Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann, starring Anna Netrebko and Joseph Calleja; and Bizet's Carmen, starring Elīna Garanča and Roberto Alagna), I have no doubt seats will fill fast. Also on the schedule are The Magic Flute, Der Rosenkavalier, Doctor Atomic, La Boheme, Hansel and Gretel, Turandot, and Aida. Start times range between 7:15 PM and 8:00 PM. Hopefully, the weather will be perfect as there are no rain dates!
