New York Now in Bryant Park

Thursday September 18, 2008
If you live in Manhattan or will be in the area between September 23 through October 8, you're in for a special musical treat. Bryant Park is presenting a series of absolutely free concerts featuring accomplished artists of the New York Philharmonic, New York City Opera, Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Metropolitan Opera (young artists program) and The New York Pops. For more information, visit www.bryantpark.org/calendar/nynow.php, or look up "New York Now in Bryant Park" on Facebook.

These concerts are a great way to expose classical music to people who wouldn’t generally go, but Bryan Park is not that big, so if you go, make sure you go early and nab a piece of grass. New Yorkers are kind of nasty. One time in Central Park when Lang Lang was playing it was so difficult to find a “seat.” People kept telling me, “Oh , actually that grass is taken.” Really?
