La Sylphide in June at the Houston Ballet
Thursday March 27, 2008
This June, the Houston Ballet will breathe, or rather dance, life into an age old fairy-tale full of fantasy, magic, and sorrow. Danish choreographer August Bournonville created a ballet that would become the cornerstone of Romantic ballet. La Sylphide, one of the earliest romantic ballets, is a fantastical story of a young man who leaves his fiance for an attractive and magical sylph. And true to romantic form, the beautifully choreographed story is marred with death and tragedy. La Sylphide was performed by the Boston Ballet in 2005 and was given rave reviews. If you live in or around Houston (or will be visiting), make a point to see this ballet, as it is rarely performed.
