A Photo Journal
Saturday March 15, 2008
PlaybillArts.com has posted a photo journal of a recent performance of Donizetti's Mary, Queen of Scots at the San Diego Opera. The opera received glowing reviews. I have never seen this opera, but I'd love to see it when it's performed in an area near me. Have you seen Donizetti's Mary, Queen of Scots ? What are your thoughts?

A La Scala production of MARIA STUARDA has been distributed in HD by emergingpictures.com. In New York City that and other La Scala films are being shown at Symphony Space (www.symphonyspace.com) The Donizetti production is a wonderful one with two marvellous sopranos singing the roles of Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I, her cousin.
The opera is based on the play Maria Stuart by Schiller, and like the play hypothesizes that the two women meet — which they never did. The music is wonderful.
Since the first opera of the La Scala HD series has already been released on DVD (AIDA), I anticipate that they will all come out eventually. I hope so, because the TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, directed by Patrice Chereau, is the best acted of any TRISTAN I have ever seen. Although the TRISTAN himself is terrible (and so is Kurvenal) the rest of the cast is formidable.
Hello. And Bye.
