Who Sang It Better?

Thursday March 6, 2008
I love Verdi's "Ave Maria" from his opera Otello. While I was in college, I used to listen to it while painting in the art studio. I've gathered a handful of videos from YouTube of different sopranos singing the beautiful aria. I know the videos differ in quality, but try and listen to each one. What do you like about them? How do they differ? Out of these videos, who sings it best?

(1) Steve Slezak says:

Your last singer should read Mirella Freni. Te Kanawa is just slightly better than the others…though it’s pretty difficult to pick a “best”.
