Erik Satie's Six Gnossiennes

Sunday August 26, 2007
Satie's Gnossiennes are a collection of six works for solo piano composed in the 1890's. Though, the latter half of the works weren't published until 1968, Satie's Gnossiennes have become incredibly popular. Their almost introveted sound and timeless qualities have put them on thousands of "calm and tranquil" classical music compilation albums. I've been somewhat obsessed with Satie's Six Gnossiennes lately - this last week I tought myself how to play Gnossienne No. 2 (it's my favorite). Watch a video of Gnossienne No. 2. If you like Satie's Trois Gymnopedies, then you will definitly like his Six Gnossiennes. Learn more about Satie's Six Gnossiennes including their creation as well as their unique title.
