Another Cheer for Yo Yo Ma

It was announced today that the famed cellist, Yo Yo Ma, was awarded Denmark's highest music award, the 2006 Sonning Music Prize. Yo Yo Ma will receive a check for $80,000 during a December 10, 2006, concert in Copenhagen. The Sonning Music Prize, awarded to an exemplary world renowned composer, conductor, musician, or singer, was established in 1959. Among previous winners such as Leonard Bernstein, Igor Stravinsky, Miles Davis, Benjamin Britten, and Georg Solti, Yo Yo Ma truly is a part of an elite group of musicians.
